Aisha Ahmad's International Security Article Wins ISSS/ISA Best Article Award

Aisha S. Ahmad's "The Security Bazaar: Business Interests and Islamist Power in Civil War Somalia," International Security, Vol. 39, No. 3 (Winter 2014/15), pp. 89–117, has received the Best Security Article Award given by the International Security Studies Section (ISSS) of the International Studies Association. This is the first year that ISSS has given a Best Security Article Award, so Aisha Ahmad is the inaugural winner.

International Security Ranks First among International Relations Journals

International Security, the quarterly journal edited at the International Security Program of the Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center and published by The MIT Press, ranks first for citations and impact among international relations journals, according to two prominent metrics, Impact Factor and SCImago Journal Rank.

Mark S. Bell, International Security Program/Project on Managing the Atom Research Fellow, is Co-winner of the 2016 Patricia Weitsman Award

Mark S. Bell's summer 2015 International Security article, "Beyond Emboldenment: How Acquiring Nuclear Weapons Can Change Foreign Policy," is one of two co-winners of the 2016 Patricia Weitsman Award for Outstanding International Security Studies Section Graduate Paper. The paper proffers a new a typology that innovatively delineates the ways in which the acquisition of nuclear weapons can alter the foreign policy behavior of current and future nuclear states.

International Security Ranks First in the 2014 Impact Factor Rankings

International Security, the quarterly journal edited at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center and published by The MIT Press, ranked first for Impact Factor in 2014 among eighty-five journals of international relations ranked in the Journal Citation Reports® released this month by Thomson Reuters. Other leading journals in this global category of rankings include the Journal of Peace Research, International Organization, World Politics, and Foreign Affairs.

Kenneth Waltz, 1924–2013

Kenneth Waltz, who was arguably the most influential scholar of international relations of the past half-century, passed away on May 13, 2013. Waltz's influence is particularly evident in the pages of International Security, to which he was also a contributor. To commemorate his legacy, we are making two of his articles available online.
