Future of Diplomacy Project welcomes Ambassador João Vale de Almeida for Europe Week
Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, European Union Ambassador to the United Nations, spoke at the Kennedy School as part of the Future of Diplomacy Project’s annual ‘Europe Week’ series. The event, titled The European Union: A Global Actor? was conducted in an off-the-record format, allowing the Ambassador to speak candidly about the European Union’s role within the United Nations, appropriate responses to the many challenges facing the European Union, and the evolving nature of diplomacy in the 21st century.
In an on-the-record statement, Vale de Almeida thanked the Harvard Future of Diplomacy Project for welcoming him to campus and said that it was part of his duty as an ambassador to "step out of the diplomatic corridors" by participating in events such as Europe Week, in order to learn from interactions with "people that shape the world in a different way than the diplomats do."
