A Two-Regime Solution? The Role of International Politics in the Israel-Palestine Conflict

Thu., Dec. 15, 2011 | 12:15pm - 2:00pm

Littauer Building - Belfer Center Library, Room 369

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's addresses to the United Nations on the Palestinian bid for statehood in September 2011 were not a debate between disagreeing parties. Their speeches hardly even attempted to appeal to the same audience. Rather, the debate reflected two incompatible views on which international institutions have the legitimacy to intervene in the conflict. This seminar will explore the inherent logic of these narratives and discuss how they resonate with American political discourse.
