Harvard Project — with the Salata Institute — Provides Support for Students to Attend COP-28

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements collaborated with the Salata Institute on Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University to provide financial and logistical support for students to attend the Twenty-Eighth Conference of the Parties (COP-28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). COP-28 will be held in Dubai, Nov. 30 – Dec. 12, 2023.

Salata Institute Launches Initiative to Reduce Global Methane Emissions

The Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University launched today a major research and outreach initiative to reduce global methane emissions. The initiative seeks meaningful and sustained progress in global methane-emissions reductions through research and effective engagement with government policymakers and with key stakeholders in business, nongovernmental organizations, and international institutions.

Harvard Project Conducts Research Workshop on Guangdong Province’s CO2 Emissions Trading System

The Harvard Project conducted a research workshop in June 2021, “Prospects for Guangdong Province’s Emissions Trading System.” Guangdong Province ranks first in economic output among China’s provinces and will play a major role in achieving increasingly ambitious national emissions-reduction targets. Guangdong’s emissions-trading system is, in turn, a key policy instrument in the Province’s climate-action plan.

Nathaniel Keohane, Former HEEP Fellow, Named President of C2ES

Nathaniel Keohane, a former Pre-Doctoral Fellow of the Harvard Environmental Economics Program (HEEP), was named the new President of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) on May 24, 2021. He will assume that role on July 1. HEEP is closely affiliated with the Harvard Project on Climate Agreements.

Harvard Project Co-Sponsors Webinar on Climate and Energy Policy in India

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements co-sponsored a webinar on March 30, 2021: “The Future of Green India: Energy and Climate Change.” Hosting the event was the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard University. The other co-sponsors were the Environment and Natural Resources Program in the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School — and the Harvard University Center for the Environment. The Harvard Global Institute provided support for the seminar and a larger project of which it is part.

Harvard Project Conducts Joint Workshop on Carbon Pricing with Sciences Po

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements and the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) at Sciences Po Paris co-sponsored a workshop on March 16, 2021: “Prospects for Carbon Pricing in Europe and the United States.” U.S. participants included Harvard faculty members, as well as colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Environmental Defense Fund. European participants were based in Science Po’s CEE and French Economic Observatory, joined by an affiliate at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, London School of Economics. Participants represented the disciplinary perspectives of both economics and political science.

Harvard Project Conducts Research Workshop on China’s National Carbon Pricing System

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements conducted a research workshop on October 14 – 15, 2020 titled “China’s National Carbon-Pricing System: Challenges and Opportunities.” Tsinghua University’s Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy — directed by Professor Zhang Xiliang — co-organized the workshop. The Harvard Global Institute provided major support for the project. The workshop was conducted virtually over Zoom.
