Center's Energy Work Wields Impact and Influence Around the World

The Belfer Center began researching energy technology issues in the late 1990s. Its mission was “to determine and promote the adoption of effective strategies for developing and deploying cleaner and more efficient energy technologies that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and stress on water resources, and improve economic development.”

In this issue, we look at the history and influence of the Center’s energy innovation efforts in the past two decades by focusing primarily on ETIP’s work in the U.S. and China.

Former Australian Prime Minister Named Senior Fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia, has been named a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center, where he will lead a major research effort on possibilities and impacts of a new strategic relationship between China and the United States. In addition, he will be a Visiting Fellow with Harvard's Institute of Politics, beginning in February 2014.

Dr. Khalid Alsweilem Named Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center

Cambridge, MA – Dr. Khalid Alsweilem, former Chief Counselor and Director General of Investment at the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), has been appointed a non-resident fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. At the Belfer Center, Dr. Alsweilem will focus on the study of sovereign wealth funds, with a particular focus on Saudi Arabia’s reserve sovereign funds and their linkages to the real economy.

Belfer Center Named Top Think Tank for Work in Climate Economics and Policy

The International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG) has named Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs winner of the 2012 ICCG Climate Think Tank Ranking in the Global category. The Belfer Center was cited as the most influential institution outside of Europe “working in the field of climate change economics and policy.” The European winner is the Basque Center for Climate Change (BC3) in Spain.
