The Winter 2011-2012 issue of the Belfer Center newsletter features news, analysis and insight by Belfer Center scholars on issues that include increasingly important info-tech policy challenges and the first U.S.-Russian joint threat assessment on nuclear terrorism. The Center’s deepening impact on defense policy is highlighted with an article about the recent appointments of Ashton B. Carter and Eric Rosenbach to senior Pentagon posts and a Q&A with Carter, the new deputy secretary of defense. Additional articles focus on issues ranging from the Palestinian bid for statehood to Calestous Juma’s role in Lagos’ launch of the first innovation advisory council in Africa.

International Council Engages on Middle East, Energy Transformations

Summer 2011

The turmoil engulfing the Middle East dominated the two-day gathering of the Belfer Center’s International Council on April 12-13. One panel after another discussed the wide-ranging implications of the Arab Spring, debating potential outcomes and ramifications of the dramatic uprisings as well as the Obama administration’s handling of the serial crises.

Students Bring Diversity of Views, Experiences

Spring 2005

Kennedy School students who focus on issues taught by Belfer Center faculty contribute to the Center's mission not only by conducting research projects and carrying Center findings and goals into the larger world, but also by bringing to the Center a wealth of viewpoints, ideas, and past experiences. Current students are no exception.
