The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is proud to host a Directors’ Lunch on “The Deteriorating Security Situation in the Persian Gulf: Can it be Reversed?” with Bruce Riedel, former Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Near East and South Asia Affairs at the National Security Council

Mr. Riedel has advised three Presidents on Middle East issues, serving in the National Security Council at the White House.  He was Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Near East and South Asia Affairs from April 1997 to December 2001. 

Prior to that office, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Near East and South Asia Issues at the Pentagon (1995-1997) and Director for Persian Gulf and South Asia Affairs at the NSC (1991-1993).  He has lived and traveled extensively in the region. 

Mr Riedel is a graduate of Brown (BA), Harvard (MA) and the Royal College of Defense Studies in London.
