The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Director's Seminar with Financial Times Chief Economics Commentator Martin Wolf, CBE, in the Belfer Center Library (L369).
Martin Wolf is a British journalist, widely considered to be one of the world's most influential writers on economics.
Wolf assessed the steps taken to resolve the eurozone crisis in a March 6 Financial Times column, "....little yet suggests that a way has been found towards the necessary rebalancing of the Eurozone economy and, above all, towards achieving the desired mix of reform, adjustment and a swift return to growth."
Wolf is Associate Editor and Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times, London, writing a weekly column on the world economy and a fortnightly column on the UK. He is a Forum Fellow at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he has served as a panel moderator. Martin was a senior economist for ten years at the World Bank's division of international trade.
Wolf is the author of several books and numerous articles on global economics and political economy including, Fixing Global Finance: How to Curb Financial Crises in the 21st Century. Named in 2009 by China Business News as the "Financial Book of the Year," Wolf's book describes how financial crises develop, and what we can do to help ensure global financial stability in the future.
Wolf was joint winner of the Wincott Foundation senior prize for excellence in financial journalism in both 1989 and 1997. He won the RTZ David Watt memorial prize in 1994. In 2000, Wolf was awarded the CBE (Commander of the British Empire). Wolf was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, by the University of Nottingham in 2006, and was made Doctor of Science (Economics) of University of London, honoris causa, by the London School of Economics in the same year. He has Bachelor and Masters Degrees of Philosophy from Corpus Christi College and Nuffield College, Oxford University.
