Hansvolker Ziegler is Deputy Director General for Environmental and Socio-economic Research at the Federal Ministry for Education and Research in Bonn/Berlin since1998. He trained in law and political science in Berlin, Bonn and at LSE London. Counsellor at Federal Chancellor's Office 1971-74; civil servant in Federal Ministry of Research and Technology, e.g. Head of Cabinet with 3 Ministers, from 74 onwards; Director for Research at the Senate of Berlin 77 - 79; Centralsecretary at headquarters of the Social-Democratic Party 85 - 87; since 87 again in Federal Ministry for Education and Research with different responsibilities from national labs, IT-policy, EU-r&d-framework to science research. He is chair of the International Group of Funding Agencies.
