Please join us December 3 for a vibrant discussion with Paul Johnston, the Director for International Security in the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). In this position, Mr. Johnston advises on UK foreign policy with respect to the United Nations, NATO, European security, arms control and disarmament, human rights and good governance. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Johnston served as the Head of the Political Section for the UK Mission to the UN in New York, where he advised the UK's Permanent Representative on issues relating to the Security Council and UN reform, the UK EU presidency in 2005, UN summit negotiations, and the conflict cycle. He has previously served as the Head of the Security Policy Department in the UK FCO (2002-04), where he worked on NATO reform and enlargement; the Deputy Head of the EUD(E) (2001-02); and the Head of the European Defense Section of the Security Policy Department (2000-01). Additionally, Mr. Johnston spent a year as Head of the FCO's Kosovo Policy Team (1999-2000), four years as the 2nd Secretary for the UK in Paris (two of which were spent covering the Balkans in particular), and two years as a Bosnia Desk Officer for the FCO.
