As never before, a majority of citizens and elected officials have become enthralled with U.S. armed might. The concept of military power has become central to U.S. national identity, and policymakers continue to nurse grandiose expectations of what force can actually accomplish. The results are bound to be military follies like the current situation in Iraq, as well as an inability to confront effectively those problems, like terrorism, that present our biggest challenges.
Professor Bacevich has taught at the United States Military Academy at West Point; at the School of Arts and Sciences, Johns Hopkins University; and at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. He came to Boston University in 1998.
