The Science and Technology of the Deepwater Horizon Incident

About

Join members of the BP's Deepwater Production and Gulf Coast Restoration teams for a discussion on the technical issues of oil production in deep water systems such as those in the Gulf of Mexico, including responding to and remediating oil spills.

For months, the efforts of a diverse team of scientists, technologists and engineers to cap the Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico and minimize the effects of the spill were top of the world-wide news agenda. The headlines are receding, but the hard work continues towards understanding the root causes of the incident so that measures can be taken to prevent similar events in the future.

Rick Bartlett, a senior BP engineer with over 27 years front line oil industry experience, and Arden Ahnell, Manager of Science for BP's Gulf Coast Restoration Organization, were both directly involved in the Deepwater Horizon response. They will share their insights into the technical and scientific aspects of deepwater exploration and the incident response.

Admittance will be on a first-come first-served basis.
