Joseph Nye headed a project on "Superpower Ethics," co-sponsored by CSIA and the Carnegie Corporation's Center for Religion and International Affiars in New York. This project hosted a psecial lecture series at the School, and is now collecting the lectures into a book for publication. The lectures were: "Soviet Conceptions of Mortality and Foreign Policy," Dmitri Simes, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University; "Peace, PLuralism, and Human Rights," Michael Novak, American Enterprise Institute for Foreign Policy Research; "The Superpowers' Contest: Ethical Aspects of its 'Rules of the Game,'" Stanley Hoffmann, Center for European Studies, Harvard; "European Views of Superpower Ethics," Pierre Hassner, National Foundation for Political Science; and "Superpower Ethics: A Third World Perspective," Ali Mazrui, Center for Afro-American and African Studies, University of Michigan.
