Terrorism: A European Perspective

Open to the Public

The topic of discussion will be terrorism as seen from a European perspective.

About

The topic of discussion will be terrorism as seen from a European perspective. Our discussion will be led by Lorenzo Vidino, a widely recognized terrorism expert, author of the book Al Qaeda in Europe: The New Battleground of International Jihad, and a frequent commentator for U.S. and European news organizations. He is associated with the Jebsen Center for Counterterrorism Studies at Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Investigative Project on Terrorism in Washington, D.C.

Readings for this session will be Vidino’s testimony before Congress on Islamic Extremism in Europe (.pdf) and his recent Terrorism Monitor article,  "The Dangers of Homegrown Terrorism to Scandinavia". Topics for discussion may include the growing threat from European terrorist groups, differing counterterrorism strategies in Europe and the United States, and the increasing unhappiness among some European authorities over what they see as U.S. heavy-handed tactics.

Please contact Erica Chenoweth or Erik Dahl with any questions, and we hope to see you at the meeting.
