Marred by accusations of corruption and mismanagement, President Hamid Karzai's administration must now respond to the fallout from a flawed presidential election. How will Karzai regain legitimacy in the eyes of the Afghan people and international community? What's next for Afghanistan under his leadership? How will the current situation affect Obama's decision about future U.S. involvement in Afghanistan?

Jasteena Dhillon is an international lawyer who has worked in international development and conflict environments since 1994. Her work in Afghanistan, as it in Sudan and Somalia, is aimed at cultivating local systems of customary justice and building a state system that gives due regard to local values and conceptions of justice. In her most recent position with NATO, Jasteena worked as an advisor on justice and reconciliation in Afghanistan and Sudan as a way to facilitate civil-military interaction.
