About the speakers:

DARON ACEMOGLU is the Killian Professor of Economics at MIT. He is the recipient of the 2012 Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize in Economics. Nemmers prizes are given in recognition of major contributions to new knowledge or the development of significant new modes of analysis.

JOHN TIRMAN is the Executive Director and a Principal Research Scientist at MIT's Center for International Studies. He is author of, most recently, The Deaths of Others: The Fate of Civilians in America's Wars (Oxford University Press, 2011).
