To compete and thrive in the 21st century, democracies, and the United States in particular, must develop new national security and economic strategies that address the geopolitics of information. In the 20th century, market capitalist democracies geared infrastructure, energy, trade, and even social policy to protect and advance that era’s key source of power—manufacturing. In this century, democracies must better account for information geopolitics across all dimensions of domestic policy and national strategy.
Biography
Alex O’Neill serves as research assistant to Matthew Bunn at the Project on Managing the Atom and as a researcher for the Korea Project. His research interests include arms control, nuclear security, cyber issues, and U.S.-Russian relations. Alex previously worked at MTA as a student associate in the summer of 2018. He is fluent in English and Spanish and has advanced proficiency in Russian. Alex graduated cum laude from Yale College with a degree in European History. He will begin a master’s program in Russian and East European Studies at the University of Oxford in October 2021.
