To compete and thrive in the 21st century, democracies, and the United States in particular, must develop new national security and economic strategies that address the geopolitics of information. In the 20th century, market capitalist democracies geared infrastructure, energy, trade, and even social policy to protect and advance that era’s key source of power—manufacturing. In this century, democracies must better account for information geopolitics across all dimensions of domestic policy and national strategy.
Biography
Chris Mawhorter is the Communications and Events Coordinator at the Middle East Initiative, overseeing planning and execution of all events and public-facing communications. Prior to joining MEI, Chris worked as a Refugee Employment Specialist and Adult Educator in Lynn, MA. He also lived and worked in Israel-Palestine, supporting the Middle East Studies Program (MESP), then based in East Jerusalem. Chris is an alumnus of MESP and of Gordon College in Wenham, MA, where he studied International Affairs and Economics. He is now studying for an MPH in Environmental Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
