Harvard Project Director Robert Stavins Receives Environmental Award

Harvard Project Director Robert N. Stavins was awarded the Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Award on July 12, 2016, which is presented annually by the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CCEEB) to a leader in advancing environmental policy in California. CCEEB is a coalition of business, labor, and public leaders seeking to promote both a sound economy and a healthy environment. The award is named after the former California governor, founding CCEEB Chairman, and father of current Governor Jerry Brown.

CCEEB's press release notes that "Dr. Stavins has been a major voice on environmental policies internationally, nationally, and in California." It goes on to quote CCEEB President Gerald Secundy:

"Everybody knows Rob's work. While we should certainly be proud of our accomplishments in California, it’s all pretty meaningless if done in a vacuum. Rob shows us a path towards linking to the wider world, to being more than just the 'Island of California.' That's how we’ll ultimately solve the climate problem."

Previous recipients of the Pat Brown Award include California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (with State Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez and Senate President Don Perata) and California Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols, for her "leadership guiding the successful launch of California's greenhouse gas cap-and-trade program." Past recipients also include State Senator Fran Pavley and the late Tom Graff, founder of the Environmental Defense Fund’s California office—both pioneers in designing and implementing environmental policy in the state.
