To compete and thrive in the 21st century, democracies, and the United States in particular, must develop new national security and economic strategies that address the geopolitics of information. In the 20th century, market capitalist democracies geared infrastructure, energy, trade, and even social policy to protect and advance that era’s key source of power—manufacturing. In this century, democracies must better account for information geopolitics across all dimensions of domestic policy and national strategy.
Biography
Patricia (Pat) McLaughlin passed away February 1, 2020, following a brief illness.
Pat McLaughlin was Faculty Assistant to John P. Holdren, Co-Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at the Belfer Center. She came to the Belfer Center after many years in publishing. When not working for STPP, she was attending to her large family, volunteering in her town's animal shelter, adventuring with her granddaughters—Maddie and Emily—and her beloved pets and grandpets, or working in her garden. She was named a Harvard Hero in 2008, Harvard's top recognition for a select number of "outstanding employees."
