Andrew Kim, Former Head of the CIA’s Korea Mission Center, Named Belfer Center Fellow

Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs has named Sung Hyun “Andrew” Kim a non-resident Fellow with the Korea Project.  Mr. Kim recently retired as a senior intelligence officer from the Central Intelligence Agency after 28 years of service.

‘Clean Water for Carolina Kids’ Program Wins Harvard’s Roy Award for Environmental Partnership

CAMBRIDGE, MA –The Environment and Natural Resources Program at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs announced today that Clean Water for Carolina Kids is the winner of the 2020 Roy Family Award for Environmental Partnership. The partnership of RTI International, NC Child, the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic, and the North Carolina Division of Public Health protects children and infants from exposure to lead from drinking water at child care centers and schools.

Economists Find EPA Proposal to Undermine Protections from Power-Plant Mercury Emissions is Based on Incomplete Data and Faulty Analysis

Environmental economists from Harvard, Yale, and other leading research institutions say an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal that would eventually allow more mercury pollution from power plants relies on a cost-benefit analysis that is fatally flawed. In a new report, the economists detail how the EPA’s calculations inappropriately fail to consider how reducing mercury pollution provides tens of billions of dollars in health benefits to the American people.

Professor Joseph E. Aldy served as a a co-chair and author of this December 2019 report, which was commissioned by the External Environmental Economics Advisory Committee (E-EEAC).

Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs has appointed former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. as a resident Senior Fellow. Chairman Dunford, who retired this September as the nation’s highest-ranking military officer, will actively engage with faculty, fellows, and students on leadership development and a range of national security issues.

Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center Names Directors for Cyber Projects

The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School has named Lauren Zabierek, Maria Barsallo Lynch, and Julia Voo to head three of the Center’s growing cyber-related projects. They will run the Center’s Cyber Project, Defending Digital Democracy Project, and China Cyber Policy Initiative, respectively.
