International Security

This seminar will explore the nature of diplomacy and its strategic, tactical, and risk management roles in American statecraft. Case studies to be discussed include those of U.S. Cold War diplomacy in southern Africa and on the Taiwan issue as well as examples from European history, the Middle East, and elsewhere.

This seminar is being held under the auspices of the joint HKS/MIT Program on Strategy, Security, and Statecraft.

James Scholar Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute; Sahar Nowrouzzadeh, Joint Research Fellow at the Belfer Center's Iran Project and Project on Managing the Atom; Jeffrey G. Karam, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Belfer Center's International Security Program; and Tarek Masoud, Sultan of Oman Professor of International Relations at Harvard Kennedy School.

This event is presented jointly by the Middle East Initiative, the Iran Project, and the International Security Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
