Professor John P. Holdren gave the inaugural address for the Center of Biological Risk at the University of Connecticut on October 9, 2017.

President Trump has proposed severe cuts to US government spending on energy research, development and demonstration, but Congress has the 'power of the purse' and can rescue US energy innovation. If serious cuts are enacted, the pace of innovation will slow, harming the economy, energy security and global environmental quality.

Professor John P. Holdren gave the keynote lecture opening a two-day international congress at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, which was organized by the University’s Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment on the topic of "Building Resilience to Climate Change." 

Dr. John P. Holdren gave the 11th Annual Wheeler Lecture for the Quissett Harbor Preservation Trust in Falmouth, Massachusetts, on July 23, 2017.

"Precisely because climate science has policy implications that appear to challenge the status quo in global energy supply, moreover, the degree of professional skeptical scrutiny to which key climate-science findings have been subjected has far exceeded even the already pervasive and rigorous norm."

The Woods Hole Research Center (WHRC) posted statements by WHRC President Dr. Philip Duffy and WHRC Senior Advisor Dr. John P. Holdren, who is also co-directs the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program, on the consequences of U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and former Harvard Kennedy School Dean Joseph S. Nye was honored  by the Center’s Cyber Security Project in April for his leadership and contributions to cybersecurity through the Belfer Center’s cybersecurity initiatives. Nye has announced his retirement at the end of the semester.

"The partial budget blueprint released by the White House recently will put U.S. leadership in science and technology at serious risk if Congress goes along. In addition to the obvious damage that would result from the proposed $5.8 billion cut at NIH, the $2 billion cut in applied energy R&D, the $900 million cut in DOE’s Office of Science, the abolition of ARPA-E, and the research cuts at NOAA and EPA, a less immediately obvious potential casualty would be U.S. scientific cooperation with a wide variety of other countries on a wide variety of topics."
