Scaling Innovation for National Security

Join the Belfer Center's Technology and Public Purpose Project for a study group on “Scaling Innovation for National Security.”

This three-part study group will be organized by TAPP fellow, HKS Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy, and Former U.S. Deputy CTO Nick Sinai, and explores the intersection of national security, technology, and innovation to solve national security challenges. Experts from across the defense innovation ecosystem will share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities for scaling new technology to advance U.S. interests. 

This study group is open to anyone with an interest in learning about innovation and national security. No background in national security or technology is required! Our goal is to explore the intersection of these two fields and identify new opportunities to drive innovation and solve national security challenges. 

Sessions: 

  • Session 1. Perspectives from the Pentagon, with the Honorable Michèle Flournoy
  • Session 2. Scaling Innovation: An Entrepreneur's Perspective, with Josh Lospinoso
  • Session 3. Innovating for the Warfighter, with General Joe Dunford, USMC (Ret.)

Led by Belfer Center Director and former Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, the TAPP Project works to ensure that emerging technologies are developed and managed in ways that serve the overall public good.  

Join the TAPP team on Thursday, September 15th on the rooftop of Felipe's Taqueria from 4 - 6pm to learn more about the project, including student research opportunities for the 2022-2023 academic year. RSVP is required to attend.

Drinks and snacks provided. This event is restricted to students who are 21+.

This event is part three of a special series of convenings conducted through the Democracy and Internet Governance Initiative, hosted by Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy. The Initiative focuses on identifying solutions to the harms caused by digital platforms, such as social media. Improving Information Integrity at Scale focuses on addressing wide spread mis- and disinformation. 

The event is co-chaired by Belfer Center Director Ash Carter and Shorenstein Center Director Nancy Gibbs.

This event is part two of a special series of convenings conducted through the Democracy and Internet Governance Initiative, hosted by Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy. The Initiative focuses on identifying solutions to the harms caused by digital platforms, such as social media. Addressing Networked Harassment and Diminished Press Freedom focuses on harassment of journalists and the decreased trust and freedom of robust news outlets.
