Why and how do regional security-orientated institutions change over time? Examining the case of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the periods 1968–1976 and 1988–1997, this seminar will explain the causes and processes of ASEAN's transformation, with implications for today's strategic landscape in East Asia in the context of China's rise.
