Harvard Project Conducts Joint Workshop on Carbon Pricing with Sciences Po

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements and the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) at Sciences Po Paris co-sponsored a workshop on March 16, 2021: “Prospects for Carbon Pricing in Europe and the United States.” U.S. participants included Harvard faculty members, as well as colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Environmental Defense Fund. European participants were based in Science Po’s CEE and French Economic Observatory, joined by an affiliate at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, London School of Economics. Participants represented the disciplinary perspectives of both economics and political science.

Harvard Project Conducts Research Workshop on China’s National Carbon Pricing System

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements conducted a research workshop on October 14 – 15, 2020 titled “China’s National Carbon-Pricing System: Challenges and Opportunities.” Tsinghua University’s Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy — directed by Professor Zhang Xiliang — co-organized the workshop. The Harvard Global Institute provided major support for the project. The workshop was conducted virtually over Zoom.

This volume of briefs examines subnational climate-change policy in China — including how Chinese provinces and municipalities work with the central government to implement policy. The volume focuses to a considerable degree on how China’s subnational (pilot) emissions-trading systems can inform the emerging national carbon-pricing system.

Joseph Aldy Appointed Professor of the Practice at Harvard Kennedy School

Joseph Aldy, Co-Director of the Harvard Project on Climate Agreements from 2007–2009 and an active collaborator since, has been appointed Professor of the Practice of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). Dean Douglas Elmendorf announced the appointment on May 9. Aldy is currently associate professor of public policy at HKS.

Harvard Project Conducts Ambitious Program at COP-24

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements conducted an ambitious program of panel events and meetings with delegates at the Twenty-Fourth Conference of the Parties (COP-24) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Katowice, Poland, December 3–15, 2018. This was the eleventh of the annual COPs in which the Harvard Project has participated, beginning with COP-13 in Bali, Indonesia in December 2007.
