In his oft-quoted summary, he concludes: “It was the rise of Athens and the fear that this inspired in Sparta that made war inevitable.” In a forthcoming article, Graham Allison writes that “the defining question about global order for this generation is whether China and the U.S. can escape Thucydides’ Trap.”

Former Australian Prime Minister Named Senior Fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia, has been named a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center, where he will lead a major research effort on possibilities and impacts of a new strategic relationship between China and the United States. In addition, he will be a Visiting Fellow with Harvard's Institute of Politics, beginning in February 2014.

New Report Reveals Details of U.S., Russian, Kazakh Collaboration

In October, 2012, at the foot of a rocky hillside in eastern Kazakhstan, a group of American, Russian, and Kazakh nuclear scientists and engineers gathered for a ceremony marking the completion of a secret 17-year, $150 million operation to secure plutonium in the tunnels of Degelen Mountain—an abandoned site of Soviet underground nuclear testing. "Plutonium Mountain: Inside the 17-Year Mission to Secure a Dangerous Legacy of Soviet Nuclear Testing," a report released today by The Project on Managing the Atom at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, provides details on one of the largest nuclear security operations of the post-Cold War years.
