Sir John Gieve, former deputy governor of Bank of England, has been named senior fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. He will work on the international economic crisis and on the differing UK and US approaches to countering terrorism.  

Ambassador Paula Dobriansky, former under secretary of state for democracy and global affairs under President George W. Bush, will join Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs as a senior fellow, Belfer Center director Graham Allison announced today.

Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, PDP Founding Senior Advisor and CISAC Senior Research Scholar, has been named special assistant to the president and senior director for European affairs at the National Security Council.

President Obama has nominated PDP Co-Director Dr. Ashton B. Carter to serve as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (AT&L).

President Barack Obama announced Monday that he has nominated Dr. Ashton B. Carter to serve as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics.

In February 2009, PDP Co-Director Ashton B. Carter attended the 45th Munich Conference on Security Policy, where international leaders met and discussed plans to bolster the Transatlantic relationship and cooperatively address a variety of global security challenges.

William H. Tobey, deputy administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation at the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) from 2006 to 2009 and a Harvard Kennedy School graduate (MPP ‘84), will start February 2^nd as a senior fellow at the Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, where he will work with the Center’s nuclear team.

Dr. Ashton B. Carter, Co-Director of the Preventive Defense Project, was recently invited to become a member of the American Academy of Diplomacy (AAD). Carter was invited to join AAD based on his continued contributions to American diplomacy, particularly his work on denuclearization of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Belarus; his negotiations with the North Koreans, and his chairmanship of the NATO High Level Group.

President-elect Barack Obama announced in his radio address Saturday that he has selected Harvard's John P. Holdren to serve as Assistant to the President for Science and Technology in the new administration. The post, popularly known as "the President's science advisor," also includes directorship of the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President and requires Senate confirmation. 

Rolf Mowatt-Larssen, director of the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence at the U.S. Department of Energy and former head of the Central Intelligence Agency's WMD and terrorism efforts, will join the Harvard Kennedy School Belfer Center as a senior fellow on January 19, 2009.
