John P. Holdren Receives Japan's Order of the Rising Sun

The Government of Japan has announced that its prestigious Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star will be awarded to John P. Holdren, Co-Director of the Belfer Center's Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program and former Assistant to the President for Science and Technology during the Obama administration. Holdren will receive the award for his "contributions to strengthening relations between the two countries in science and technology."

Ash Carter Receives Japan's Order of the Rising Sun Award

The Government of Japan has announced that its prestigious Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun will be awarded to Ashton B. Carter, Belfer Center Director and former Secretary of Defense.  The award recognizes his contributions towards strengthening the relationship between Japan and the United States in the areas of security and defense.

Morgan Kaplan Joins Belfer Center as Executive Editor of International Security

Cambridge, MA – Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs welcomed Morgan Kaplan this week as the new Executive Editor of International Security. Kaplan succeeds Sean Lynn-Jones, who retired after 31 years of service to the journal he led to repeated No. 1 rankings for scholarly impact. Kaplan joins the Center from Northwestern University, where he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Buffett Institute for Global Studies. Earlier he was an International Security Program Postdoctoral Fellow at the Belfer Center and a Predoctoral Fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University.

Joseph Aldy Appointed Professor of the Practice at Harvard Kennedy School

Joseph Aldy, Co-Director of the Harvard Project on Climate Agreements from 2007–2009 and an active collaborator since, has been appointed Professor of the Practice of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). Dean Douglas Elmendorf announced the appointment on May 9. Aldy is currently associate professor of public policy at HKS.
