Community-Based Reading Programs for Syrian Refugee Children

In June 2016, three Harvard students received funding from the Middle East Initiative to travel to Za'atari Refugee Camp in Jordan to conduct a process evaluation of the pilot TIGER program. TIGER (These Inspiring Girls Enjoy Reading) is a community-based, non-formal education initiative for adolescent Syrian girls in Za'atari funded through the UNHCR Innovation fund, implemented by International Relief and Development (IRD) and designed and supported by Open Learning Exchange.

On November 19, 2014 at MEI, Professor Diwan presented his findings from analysis of the sixth wave of the World Values Survey, focusing on the Arab World and specifically on Arab Youth.

Podcast: "Arab States and UN Human Rights Mechanisms: An Overview"

An audio recording from Monday, September 9, when the Middle East Initiative (MEI) hosted Fateh Azzam, former Regional Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights for the Middle East, as part of its MEI Speaker Series. Mr. Azzam discussed a study recently published by the American University in Beirut's Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy.  The study analyzed the human rights issues raised at the Universal Periodic Review of 10 Arab States and their acceptance and rejection of recommendations made by the Human Rights Council.
