Natalie Jaresko discusses her time as Finance Minister of Ukraine with Harvard's Future of Diplomacy Project

Natalie Jaresko (MPP ’89), former Finance Minister of Ukraine, returned to Harvard on October 31st, 2016 to take part in the Future of Diplomacy Project’s international speaker series. In a public seminar moderated by Faculty Director Nicholas Burns, Jaresko, who currently serves as chairwoman of the Aspen Institute Kyiv, reflected on her time in office from 2014 to 2016. In her two years in office, the Ukrainian government  had to contend with the Russian annexation of Crimea, a national debt crisis, widespread governmental corruption, and political instability.

EU Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht Discusses Trade and Geopolitics

The outgoing EU Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht delivered an address entitled “Trade and Geopolitics: T-TIP, Ukraine and beyond” and led a discussion with students and experts on September 11. Commissioner de Gucht discussed some of the major political obstacles for European member states in balancing protectionist policy with mutually beneficial objectives.

John Reppert: US-Russia Business Climate Since September 11th Attacks

Old rivalries between the US and Russia are opening doors for new ties in light of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The former Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan is allowing the US to base some military operations there. Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush have scheduled a summit in mid-November and the two leaders have pledged to work together to address the problem of global terrorism. Will these new alliances also extend to the business sphere?
