Ron Kalef

Ron Kalef is a Research Associate at the Middle East Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. An attorney and former journalist, his work spans public international law, regulatory policy, geopolitical risk, and the relationship between government and the private sector. At MEI, he studies regional geopolitical dynamics, subnational governance and political participation in the Middle East, and Israel–Turkey relations.

Before joining MEI, Ron was an associate at Herzog Fox & Neeman, where he advised financial institutions, multinational corporations, technology companies, and governments on sanctions, export controls, anti-bribery compliance, and public international law. His work focused on the legal and regulatory dimensions of geopolitical developments.

Ron began his career in Israeli public radio as a foreign affairs correspondent and later served as chief news editor. He headed the station’s evening news program and co-edited its morning news program, then its two highest-rated news shows. He also created and edited a weekly program examining international affairs through cultural and social perspectives. Ron co-founded an organization that engaged young Israelis with new ideas and public affairs, mentored young Arab professionals, and participated in cross-cultural initiatives in Israel and Europe.

He holds a Master in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School, where he was selected for the Leaders from Israel Graduate Fellowship, the Israeli Policy Fellowship, and the Ofer Fellowship for Israeli and Palestinian Leaders. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws and a B.A. in Middle Eastern History, magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University, where he studied Arabic and Turkish.
