Junwoo Kim

Junwoo Kim is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at Boston College and a predoctoral fellow in the International Security Program at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. His research focuses on naval deterrence, escalation, and U.S. grand strategy and the context of great power politics and international relations theory. His dissertation, Conventional Maritime Deterrence: Why Great Powers Fight at Sea, explores the success and failure of deterrence in a maritime theater by examining the impact of a state’s political objectives on military power and strategy. Kim’s archival work centers on strategic planning, military appropriations, and tactical innovation in naval affairs from the late 19^th Century through World War II. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University, and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Chicago.
