Norman Mailer. Leonard Bernstein. T.S. Eliot. Robert Frost. Those are just some of the famous winners of Harvard Signet Society’s prestigious Signet Award. This spring, one of the Belfer Center’s most admired members was added to their ranks: Dorothy Zinberg.

Dorothy Zinberg, Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and a founding member of the Belfer Center, was awarded the prestigious Harvard Signet Medal on Saturday, April 21.

"It is the badly-needed approximately 1.6 million expatriates living in this country of fewer than 3 million people whom the Omani government would like to go home. But they are crucial to the country's functioning. In both instances the government believes that the increase in the foreign tourists and the decrease in foreign workers would result in major gains for the economy and the long-term stability of the country."

"Poverty and unemployment are significant even though, like the Chinese, the Vietnamese have managed to cut abject poverty significantly. Wages remain shockingly low. Censorship is rife and Facebook is banned. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (U.S.) before the 2011 Communist Party Congress meetings, Internet cafes and blogs were closely watched; dozens of activists and bloggers were arrested for "spreading propaganda against the state." The government dismantled websites, and a number of journalists remain in jail."
