H.E. Zhang Yesui, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United States will deliver a public address on US-Chinese relations as part of the Future of Diplomacy Project's international speaker series.
Ambassador Zhang is a career diplomat, educated at Beijing Foreign Studies University and the London School of Economics. He has served as the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United States since 2010. Previously, he represented his country as Ambassador to the United Nations (2008-2010), following a five year appointment as Vice Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he oversaw policy planning, arms control and disarmament and international legal affairs, alongside crucial world regions Africa and Europe, North America and Oceanic affairs. From 2000-2003 he served as Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he led the division of protocol and personnel. He began his diplomatic career as a staff member, then attaché a the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom in 1976, before holding posts in the Department of International Organizations and Conferences in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ultimately as Director-General) and four years as First Secretary, then Counselor at the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations from 1988-1992.
