The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Directors’ Seminar with Ambassador Itamar Rabinovich, John F. Kennedy School visiting Professor of Public Policy, and former President of Tel Aviv University, on Tuesday, October 9th,in the Belfer Center Library (L369).
Itamar Rabinovich served as Israel’s ambassador to the United States from 1993-96, and headed Israel’s negotiations with Syria during the premiership of Yitzhak Rabin. Ambassador Rabinovich has authored two books on Syria, The Brink of Peace: The Israeli-Syrian Negotiations and The View from Damascus (2008).
Ambassador Rabinovich is the Yona and Dina Ettinger Chair of Contemporary Middle Eastern History at Tel Aviv University. He has recently completed an eight year term as the University's President. He has been a member of the Tel Aviv University faculty since 1971. Ambassador Rabinovich has held visiting appointments in several academic institutions, including Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Toronto.
Over the years, Ambassador Rabinovich has held numerous public positions in the public and private sector in Israel. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Dan David Foundation, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Wexner – Israel Program, a member of the Trilateral Commission, the International Advisory Board at the Brookings Institution, the Board of Bank Leumi, the International Advisory Board of the American Interest, and he has recently joined the International Advisory Council of APCO WORLDWIDE. Ambassador Rabinovich has been made by the Government of the French Republic a Commandeur l'ordre des Palmes Académiques.
Ambassador Rabinovich is the author of numerous books and other academic works. He is the author of five books on the Modern History and Politics of the Middle East and the co-author and co-editor of several other volumes.
