Belfer Center Director's Seminar with Jim McGann

The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Director's Seminar with Dr. Jim McGann, Senior Lecturer in International Studies and Director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute on "Think Tanks, Politics, and Elections in the Age of Digital and Political Disruptions" in the Belfer Library (L369).

Dr. McGann, a Senior Lecturer in International Studies and Director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute, produces the annual Go To Think Tank Index, a ranking of over 7,000 think tanks worldwide.

Prior to assuming his current post, McGann was Assistant Director of the International Relations Program at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also served as the Senior Vice President for the Executive Council on Foreign Diplomats, the Assistant Director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School, and the Public Policy Program Officer for The Pew Charitable Trusts. McGann earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a National Fellow at Stanford University while writing his doctoral thesis, which examined the nature and evolution of public-policy research organizations in the United States such as Brookings Institution, Heritage Foundation, Urban Institute, and others.

His latest book is entitled: "The Fifth Estate: Think Tanks Public Policy and Governance" (Brooking 2016).
