The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is proud to host a Directors' Seminar on "Beyond Iraq and Afghanistan-The Future of Counter-Terror Operations in the Middle East" with Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, Deputy Director of Plans and Policy (J-5) at the U.S. Central Command

BG Kimmitt is responsible for the strategic planning and conduct of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has been one of the architects of Central Command's concept of the "Long War", a perspective and understanding of the nature of the war our nation faces in the Middle East and Southwest Asia regions. Prior to these duties, BG Kimmitt served as the Deputy Director for Operations (C-3) and the Chief Military Spokesman for Multi-National Forces-Iraq in Baghdad.

BG Kimmitt was commissioned in the U.S. Army from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1976, and has commanded through thebrigade level as an artillery officer, to include commanding forces during Operation Joint Forge in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq.  He is a graduate of Harvard Business School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the School for Advanced Military Studies, and the National War College.
