Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi is the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations. In 2011 he was appointed by the Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism. He was elected in 2011 as Vice-President of the International Association of Permanent Representatives to the United Nations and in 2017 as Vice-President of the Executive Board of UNICEF.
Before his latest appointment, he served as Ambassador to Belgium, Luxemburg, and the European Union from 2007 - 2011. He served as Mayor of Jeddah, the second largest city in Saudi Arabia with a population of four million people from 2001 to 2005. Prior to that, he was a member of the Shoura Council (Parliament) from 1997 until 2001. He was also a member of the Consulting Commission to the Supreme Council (Heads of State) of the Gulf Cooperation Council. He served on the boards of several government organizations including the General Organization for Military Industries.
In the private sector, Mr. Al-Mouallimi has been active in commerce, industry, and banking. He was elected Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Riyadh and Jeddah Chamber of Commerce respectively. He was also Vice-Chairman of Olayan Financing Company, one of the leading business groups in the Middle East. Mr. Al-Mouallimi was invited to the boards of several leading companies and banks, in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. He severed on the boards of Saudi Telecom, the ational Commercial Bank, and the National Industrialization Company among others. He was Chairman of Egyptian Finance Company, and Managing Director of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Saudi Arabia. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Al-Mouallimi founded Dar Al-Mouallimi Consulting, a Jeddah-based management consulting firm, and HBG Holdings, a Dubai-based investment firm.
Mr. Al-Mouallimi holds a Master of Science degree in management from Stanford University (1983,) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Oregon State University (1973.) In 2011, the King of Belgium decorated him with the Grand Cross, of the order of the Crown.
Mr. Al-Mouallimi was born on May 5, 1952. He is married, and has four children and five grand-children.
