Careers in Geopolitical Consulting with Ziad Haider
Please join the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, the Center for International Development and the Office of Career Advancement for a conversation with Harvard Kennedy School alumnus Ziad Haider, MPP 2011, Partner and Global Director of Geopolitics at McKinsey & Company. He will discuss his expansive career in law, diplomacy, and consulting; how the private sector responds to geopolitical risk; and the role of Asia in shaping global competition.
Ziad is a leader in McKinsey’s Geopolitics Practice. He counsels clients on how to build out capabilities and frameworks to understand, monitor, and mitigate geopolitical risks and is the firm’s principal thought leader around building geopolitical resilience. Prior to joining McKinsey, Ziad served in a range of senior roles relating to economic diplomacy and national security in the US government including as Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs, engaging with and supporting US businesses globally on market access, political, and regulatory risks; a Member of the Policy Planning Staff in the Office of the Secretary of State conducting strategic planning around Asia and geo-economics; a White House Fellow at the US Department of Justice; and a foreign policy legislative aide in the US Senate.
He previously practiced international law specializing in sanctions and investment disputes and worked with human rights organizations across Asia. His writings on international affairs have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and Nikkei Asia among other leading publications. Ziad serves on the board of advisors of the International Rescue Committee, a leading global humanitarian and development organization, and is a non-resident senior advisor with the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS).
The seminar will be moderated by Belfer Young Leader Angela Yu, MPP candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School and former economics consultant at Analysis Group.
