About

Bill Potter's expertise lies in the Former Soviet Union, international security policy, nuclear nonproliferation, and nuclear safety. He has a PhD and MA in Political Science from the University of Michigan and a BA in Political Science from Southern Illinois University. Prof. Potter is a member of the UN Secretary General's Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters. His current research focuses on nuclear security in the former Soviet Union, and the politics of nuclear proliferation. He taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was executive director of the Center for International Strategic Affairs. He also taught at Stanford University, and the University of California, Davis. He is the author of Nuclear Profiles of the Soviet Successor States; Soviet Decisionmaking for Chernobyl: An Analysis of System Performance and Policy Change and Nuclear Power and Nonproliferation: An Interdisciplinary Perspective. He is the editor of Verification and SALT: The Challenge of Strategic Deception; Verification and ArmsControl and the co-editor of Dangerous Weapons, Desperate States; Dismantling the Cold War; and Soviet Decisionmaking for National Security.
