The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Director's Seminar with Hon. Gareth Evans, the Chancellor of the Australian National University in the Belfer Center Library (L369).

The Honorable Professor Gareth Evans is Chancellor of the Australian National University. Prior to assuming his chancellorship, he was a Cabinet Minister in the Hawke and Keating Labor Governments for thirteen years, and Australia’s Foreign Minister from 1988 to 1996. From 2000 to 2009, he led the Brussels-based, International Crisis Group. In addition, he co-chaired the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (2000-2001), which initiated the ‘responsibility to protect’ concept, and the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (2008-2010).  

Hon. Evans, along with innumerable chapters, reports, refereed articles and newspaper columns, has written or edited, solely or jointly, twelve books, including Australia’s Foreign Relations (MUP, 1995), The Responsibility to Protect: Ending Mass Atrocity Crimes Once and for All (Brookings Institution, 2008) and Nuclear Weapons: The State of Play (ANU, 2015).
