A conversation with Kamel Ben Naceur of International Energy Agency (IEA) on his perspectives of the global energy outlook post-COP21.
ENRP will be hosting the new Director of Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks of the IEA, Kamel Ben Naceur, on Friday (with refreshments) for an off-the-record talk.
What are some of the challenges to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and how do they vary in regions throughout the world (EU, China, India)?
Mr. Ben Naceur has nearly 35 years of experience in the global energy sector. In 2009, he became the Chief Economist at Schlumberger in Paris, and two years later he was named the President of Schlumberger's technology operation in Rio de Janeiro, handling technology development for the offshore sectors (especially deepwater/pre-salt exploration). In 2014, he became Tunisia's Minister for Industry, Energy and Mines in a government tasked to lead the country's first fully democratic elections and to restore its economic fundamentals. During his tenure, he implemented new policies for energy subsidies rationalization, as well as having a law passed on renewable energy development, including wind and solar PV. Following his government service, he returned to Schlumberger as Senior Advisor and Vice President for technology. He recently joined the IEA to modernize the IEA's approach to energy technology and guide IEA outlooks.
