Gregory Aftandilian, an independent consultant, writer, lecturer, and former Belfer Center Fellow, will speak on “The Intelligence Analyst: How intelligence is used.” Greg explains the job of an intelligence analyst and how intelligence is used by State, DOD, and Congress. He illuminates the pressures faced by intelligence analysts and the importance of providing objective analysis.

Greg Aftandilian served as a Middle East intelligence analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency from 1985-1986, covering the Iran-Iraq war and from 1986 to 2000 as a Middle East analyst in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the State Department. He received the National Intelligence Certificate of Distinction and the State Department's Superior Honor Award. From 2000 to 2004, he was a professional staff member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where he observed first-hand how Congress dealt with the run up to the Iraq war.
