International Humanitarian Law: Challenges and Perspectives
Please join the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights for a conversation with Kajsa Ollongren, European Union Special Representative for Human Rights and former Minister of Defense of the Netherlands. Ollongren will discuss the importance of upholding international humanitarian law as the global basis for conflict prevention, peace, security, and human rights.
Kajsa Ollongren served as Minister of Defense (2022–2024) and as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (2017-2022) of the Netherlands. After the 2014 local elections, she became deputy mayor of the City of Amsterdam. Ollongren graduated in contemporary history from the University of Amsterdam in 1992. She is also an alumna of the Dutch Institute on International Affairs Clingendael and the French School for Public Administration (École Nationale d’Administration, Promotion Valmy 1996-98). She finished The Business of AI course at the London Business School in 2025.
The seminar will be moderated by Belfer Center Director Meghan O'Sullivan, Jeane Kirkpatrick Professor of the Practice of International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School.
