"Latvia and Europe After Economic Crisis: What's Next," a public address by H.E. Valdis Zatlers, President of Latvia.

Moderated by Professor R. Nicholas Burns.

About

Latvia’s Head of State, H.E. Valdis Zatlers, will discuss the future prospects for his country after the financial crisis, which was among the most affected EU Member States. The Latvian economy took one of the sharpest downturns in the world, prompting high unemployment growth and a harsh contraction of the country’s economy in 2008. The situation stabilized throughout 2010, following an EU and IMF bailout and public policy measures to curtail spending. The President will reflect on his country and Europe’s recovery on the whole.
Moderated by R. Nicholas Burns, sponsored by the Future of Diplomacy Project, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School.
