Ana Palacio, Senior Vice-President for International Affairs at AREVA and former Foreign Minister of Spain, will address the US-European relations with a focus on Iran, nuclear proliferation and Afghanistan and US-European collaboration on energy security and the future of nuclear power.
Ana Palacio was the first woman to serve as Spain's Foreign Minister (2002-2004) and, at the time, held the most senior post ever filled by a woman in the Spanish government. Prior to that, as a Member of the European Parliament (1994-2002) she chaired the Legal Affairs and Internal Market Committee and the Justice and Home Affairs Committee, and was elected by her peers to chair in two half legislatures the Conference of Committee Chairmen, the Parliament's most senior body for the coordination of its legislative work. From 2006 to 2008, she served as Senior Vice-president and General Counsel of the World Bank Group and Secretary General of the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes. Currently, she serves as a member of the Executive Committee and Senior Vice-president International Affairs of AREVA. Ms. Palacio sits on the International Advisory Board of different think tanks and public institutions -among others: Council on Foreign Relations (US and EU), Notre Europe, Institut Montaigne, Aspen Institute Italia, Instituto de Empresa (IE).
