The Department of Energy's Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence is one of the 16 agencies of the US intelligence community. Its core missions include nuclear terrorism, nuclear proliferation, science and technology, energy security, and counterintelligence. The Office provides support to policy-makers and conducts collection and analysis, with a special focus on harnessing U.S. scientific and technological expertise to solve intractable problems.
Prior to his appointment at the Department of Energy, Mr. Mowatt-Larssen served for 23 years as a CIA intelligence officer in various domestic and international posts, most recently as Chief of the Europe Division. His overseas assignments include various stints in Stockholm, Moscow, Athens, Zurich and Oslo.
Prior to his career in intelligence, Mr. Mowatt-Larssen served as an officer in the U.S. Army. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York.
