About

During this time of important transition for Israel and the peace process, Silvan Shalom has been a key player in issues of security and foreign policy. As Israel’s chief diplomat, he is responsible for handling relations with the international community. In his meeting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice early this month, Shalom recognized the opportunities ahead for his nation. As he said, "[Rice] comes in a time of great optimism. We are having a new opportunity that we are determined to seize. . . in order to enable us to build an infrastructure of peace." Silvan Shalom had served previously as Minister of Finance and Minister of Science before his appointment in 2003 by Ariel Sharon.
