As Chief of Investigative Projects, Chris Isham has led and coordinated ABC News coverage of major breaking stories including all of the major terrorist attacks before and after September 11th 2001, the U.S.-led war on terrorism, homeland security, espionage, nuclear proliferation, political corruption, and financial fraud.
Recognized throughout the industry as the leading operation of its kind, the investigative projects unit at ABC News produces original reporting that consistently define the leading edge of the major stories shaping the world. Mr. Isham organized the first major network interview with Osama bin Laden in May 1998, and his unit have continued to break numerous stories relating to the ongoing threat of international terrorism. The ABC News investigative unit has also broken stories that have detailed failures of intelligence, corruption and sexual abuse in the United Nations, the CIA’s interrogation techniques for the first time, and insurance fraud after Hurricane Katrina. Most recently, the unit broke the story of former Rep. Mark Foley’s sexually explicit e-mail exchanges with former House pages. Under Mr. Isham's oversight, the unit produces programming for all ABC broadcasts including “World News Tonight,” “Nightline,” “20/20,” "Prime Time,” “Good Morning America,” and “This Week." This year, Mr. Isham’s unit has built out an investigative website “Brian Ross and the Investigative Team” on ABC News.com.
Mr. Isham's unit has been recognized with all of the major awards in the broadcast industry including numerous News Emmys, two Columbia Dupont awards, a Peabody award, four national Headliners awards, two Overseas Press Club awards, the ABA Gavel award, the Joan Shorenstein Barone award and three Edward R. Murrow awards from the Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA)
